CABRILLO NATIONAL MONUMENT ACCESSIBILITY
Cabrillo National Monument, San Diego’s National Park, is located at the Southern tip of Point Loma at 1800 Cabrillo
Memorial Drive, San Diego, California 92106-3601. Located along the Pacific Flyway, it is an important stopover for
migratory species as well as home to many seasonal and permanent residents. Birding is one of the many popular
activities available at the park, and Point Loma is renowned among birders. Early morning and late afternoon are the
best times for birding. Native species, such as red-tail hawk, California towhee and spotted towhee may be seen
throughout the park and many vistas are easily accessible via sidewalks and paved paths. During low tides, visitors
may see shorebirds such as American black oystercatcher, black-bellied plover, willet and surfbird. Migrants such as
the ovenbird, Hammond’s flycatcher, brown pelican and white-eyed vireo may be seen as well. The drip, located in
front of the Coast Defense Exhibit, is accessible by ramps and walkways. The Cabrillo National Monument Bird
Checklist is available at the park’s visitor center. Accessible parking is available throughout the park and accessible
restrooms are available at the visitor center and Old Point Loma Lighthouse. A limited number of wheelchairs are
available for loan at the visitor center. A free Birds and Biodiversity Walk meets the third Saturday of the month
(January through November) at 9:30 AM at the visitor center with Volunteer-In-Park Claude Edwards. Operating
hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. Public transportation is available to the visitor center area from the Old Town
Transit Center. There is a $5 per vehicle entrance fee ($3 per person for walk-ins, bicyclists and motorcyclists).
