Lake June-in-Winter Scrub State Park
This newer addition to the Florida Park Service remains in the development
stage and does not offer accessible accomodations at this point. The only
amenities currently found here include a shell entry road, shell parking
area, composting toilet and picnic shelter. It is however a good place to see
Florida scrub-jays nearly every day from the comfort of your vehicle. From US
Highway 27, turn east on County Road 621 (park signage is at intersection).
Follow approximately five miles and then road splits to left by Vol Fire
Station and becomes Poplar Road before it merges onto Miller Road. Directly
to your left is Daffodil Street. Turn left onto Daffodil and travel about 1.5
miles to signage on your left denoting beginning of park property. Watch
powerlines and wire fencing along this 1.5 mile stretch of scrubby flatwoods
for Florida scrub-jays, Loggerhead shrikes, American kestrels, and
Red-shouldered hawks. Continuing to the end of the roadway, visitors can turn
left into Lake June-in-Winter Scrub State Park and travel about a 1/2 mile to
shell parking lot near lakefront. Early mornings may offer numerous
opportunities to view birds from your vehicle. Sandhill cranes, Southern bald
eagles, Eastern towhees, Brown thrashers, quail and Wild turkeys are commonly
seen. Shoreline ahead may offer views of ducks and herons.
